Sharing folders with media players
Hi I have an media player which is connected to the my home network. Previously, I share my folders in order to stream the media from my Windows 7 Ult PC to my Xtreamer. Unfortunately this is not working anymore. I tried to do many tweaks in my network but with no use. What is confusing me is that I am able to access the shared folder in the PC using my Windows 7 laptop. Moreover, I can access the shared folders in the laptop from the media player. Also, i can access the media player from my PC using FTP. So there must be a problem with the way my folders are shared, I am assuming the media plauer is running Linux. I tried to disable my firewall (Comodo and Win Firewall) and Avast antivirus but with no use. I have rested and restarted both my PC, the media player, and even the router. Anyone have suggestions? Thanx all.

Have you try uninstalling Comodo firewall for the time being instead of disabling it? Once uninstall reboot and try accessing and see how it goes. Btw are you able to access media devices under network and sharing center>view network computer and device? Also ensure under media streaming options, the following media programs on this pc and remote connection as well as host pc is allowed access If the above doesnt work, get hold of the host name of the pc or laptop that you're trying to access, map it's path using the host name

Hi, Xtreamer has released the latest firmware update for the player. I suggest you install it. Xtreamer.Net - XtreamerPro firmware 2.4 The sharing problems fix should be included in v2.4. Xtreamer - Windows 7 Compatible Important Note: Microsoft provides third-party contact information to help you find technical support. This contact information may change without notice. Defaco, To get your shares working with the Xtreamer media player you will need to make sure: - Your workgroup is set to WORKGROUP - Password protected sharing is disabled (network and sharing center -> advanced sharing settings -> password protected sharing) - The guest user OR the 'Everyone' group has access to the folder you're trying to share (folder properties -> security tab) I've created a program which allows you to easily set those security settings for the xtreamer: http://forum.xtreamer.net/topic/9202-app-windows-share-manager-v12-for-xtreamer/ If you're still experiencing problems don't hesitate to join the xtreamer chat, there are enough people who have faced the same issues.

Thank you all for your kind support @Daniel Ho I have uninstalled the firewall and didn't work. The problems is more on the sharing settings rather than the firewall @Arthur Xie I already upgraded my Xtreamer, yet this solved nothing. Also, i have checked the security permission on the files. @Jan Kamp Man thank you, your program saved my day! Yes it was a problem related to the advance security settings that can only be done through registry manipulation. Actually I think you need to spread this utility, even outside Xtreamer community, as it should solve many interoperability problems between Win Vista and 7 and other platforms. I guess I had this problem because I have installed VS 2010 and VMWare. Again thank you all for the support
