Sharing from Windows Vista Business
Hi All.
This is a strange one!!
Vista Business SP 2 in a workgroup
Windows XP SP 3 In the same workgroup
Shared Folder (Which is on the vista machine) Perms:
Everyone - Contribute
Guest - Contribute
And a few other explicit allow perms, but not relevant.
The XP machine can browse to the share, and can see 85% of the folders within the share (all of which have default security perms), but for some reason it CANNOT see 15% of the folder.
If i manually go to that folder by typing the folder name into the share path, then i can get to it, so i would assume its not a permission issue, as it is accessible! We just cant see it!!!
Check lots of things (some which we are sure are not relevant but no harm anyway)
Disabled simple file sharing on the XP Machine
Mapped the network drive but still had the same problem
Browse to the share using Run \\share-pc\sharename\folder name but still only see the same 85% of folders.
Disabled all Anti Virus/Firewall Software
Made sure sharing is enabled in the control panel of the Vista Machine
Check DNS is using the local router as DNS
Made Sure offline File's are disabled on the Windows XP Machine
I am very confused!
Any help on this appreciated! If i have missed anything or you would like more info please don't hesitate to ask!!!
Thanks in advance!
Ben

Just to be really clear as i am not sure i was in the above post.
Folder A is shared on the Vista Business Machine.
Within Folder A is Folder B, Folder C, Folder D, Folder E, Folder F
The XP Machine can browse to and locate "\\vista-business\Folder A"
The XP Machine can see within this folder Folder B, Folder C
The XP Machine CANNOT see Folder D, Folder E or Folder F
Browsing manually to "\\vista-business\Folder A\Folder D" works fine!
Hope thats a little clearer!Ben Weinberg
