Shutdown button options
Hi, I am running Win7 Ent on a domain. Server 2k3.When pressing the shutdown button on the menu it immediately shuts the PC down! Is there a way of setting a warning to users after it is pressed??I.E "You are about to shutdown the PC do you want to do this" or somrthing similar? Is this possible through local or Group policy???

Hi,Afaik there is no such option.A less intrusive action could be to set the "Power button action" to "Lock" or "Switch User" under Taskbar > Properties > Start Menu > Power button action. You could also set this policy:User Configuration, Administrative Templates, and Start Menu and TaskbarRemove and prevent access to the Shutdown, Restart, Sleep, and Hibernate commandsHope this helps,\Rob

Hi DBSRE, Thanks for the post. As per my knowledge, Windows 7 does not have a shutdown confirmation prompt on pressing shutdown button. However you may like to change the default shutdown button in the start menu to Lock or Log Off. To do this, you may like to follow these steps. Step 1: Right click on the taskbar, Select properties. Step 2: Click on Start Menu tab in the Taskbar and Start Menu Properties window. Step 3: Change the Power button action to "Lock" or "Log off" or whichever option that suits you. And click OK. Step 4: Click on Start menu and you will find the change in default option Alternatively, by pressing Alt+F4 while you are on your desktop prompts for a confirmation. Hope this helps.==== "If you torture the data enough,it will confess" ==== Shanadas
