Silent File Decryption in Windows 7
In order to silently decrypt encrypted files when copying fron an EFS encrypted workstation to a non-encrypted server from XP there is a registry key that can be set:
HKLM\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\System\ DWORD Name: CopyFileAllowDecryptedRemoteDestination Value: 1
This key does not appear to work in Windows 7. How would I accomplish the same function in Windows 7?

Hi,
Based on my research, it still exists in Windows 7, but only works with EFS protected files, and the shell doesn’t use it anymore.

I am using EFS. Is the registry key the same for Windows 7 as in XP? It does not work in my testing.Scott Pierson

By shell not using it, does that mean that if I use Windows Explorer to do the copy it won't be silent, but if I use xcopy it will.Scott Pierson

Hi,
The shell doesn’t use it,
but the command line does.
