You may also want to clean out your Windows Administrative Logs, Which also causes Windows XP to slow down considerably. To Do This:Click on Administrative Tools> Windows Logs> under each tab (Application, Security,Setup etc...) Clear each tab by selecting the tab, Example: Select Application> Then select ACTION TAB> Then CLEAR> When pop up comes up asking if you want to save, SELECT NO.Do this under each category....to clear all tabs. You may also remove old SYSTEM RESTORE POINTS, but do this as a last resort. after doing this, create a new restore point.

Doing administrative cleanup will have no affect on your personal files, but does clean up the system, and does help to speed it up.However System restore, removing earlier dates can prevent you from rolling back to a earlier time and restoring the system to when it was in a stable state. You don't want to remove these if your system is unstable. unless you have a CD to restore entire system. REMINDER: always make a backup ofyour important files before making any changes to system, to prevent loss of important files. If your system is stable and being slow is the only problem you are having, you can safely remove the restore points and create a new restore point. This option will also free up disc space.
