Slow Start and BSOD (Stop: 0x000000f4)
I have a Dell laptop with Windows XP SP3. It always started up quickly and rarely gave me trouble. Starting about a week ago, I started getting BSODs while trying to download Team Fortress 2 on Steam. At first I thought it was Steam that was causing the problem, since it still ran fine otherwise. But since yesterday, it takes about 10 minutes for the computer to fully start up, from when I turn it on, to when all the icons are loaded in the system tray next to the clock. The CPU runs at about 50% during start-up, even though the task manager indicates otherwise. Eventually, the system now BSODs after about 15 minutes. I notice that during the slow start-up, or just before it hangs, the light indicating hard disk activity is lit. Here's the most recent code:STOP: 0x000000f4 (0x00000003 0x8A8AC1C8 0x8A8AC33C 0x80605676)I'm thinking of updating or re-installing the hard disk driver. The hard disk is a WDC WD3200BJKT. Assuming I can do this without failure, would this help, or is there something else I should do?8 people need an answerI do too
