Slow connection to remote DB post March updates

We have an issue where every machine that ran the March update has problems opening applications which rely on remote MS-SQL database.

The issue persists even after removing the updates.

anyone encounter a similar issue?

UPDATE: It seems that the issue is with user profiles. oddly enough, new images where the updates are already installed have no problems.
