Slow internet - netmon shows 9 second delays
I recently updated my XP to Vista(clean install)and the browsing experience is markedly poorer althoughI have very good download speeds, once the download starts. I took a netmon capture of the traffic and no matter what site or what browser, wired or wireless connection, there is always a 9 second delay between when my computer first contacts a new server over tcp and when it issues an http-get. The response and dialog with that server after that is quick. However with a web farm one might connect to several different servers in the course of a page download. In the case of additional servers in this dialog the delay is cut to 6 seconds between first contact to the new server and http-get request. I don't know TCP so I'll give a 'psuedo code' view of the dialog. Take Live Search as an example: 0 Ibrowse tosearch.live.com 0there is a dns request 0there is a tcp request to server1 3 another tcp request to server1 9 tcp request to server1 9 tcp response from server 1 9 tcp request to server 1 9 http get request 9 http response 200 9 sometcp babble 9 http requestfor css page 9 http response 200 9 some tcp babble 10 more tcp babble 12 tcp request to server2 18 tcp request to server2 18 tcp response from server2 18 tcp request to server2 18 http get request for a gif 18 http response 200 and this patternrepeated to a third server so that in the end a very simple page took 30 seconds to download. I have another Vista computer on the same network and I do not get these delays. I have compared everything I can find in the wirelessconnection settings and can find nothing different. ( I started there because I initially thought wireless was the problem... presumably the wired settings are the same too ). The netsh interface tcp global settings are the same. I tried turning off autotuning and RSS on this computer just to see but it didn't have any effect. Any suggestions on what this delay could be and how I can get rid of it? thanks!

Hi h.j.h, Before we go further, I would like to confirm if the delay issue only occurs when browsing website. Meanwhile, please boot the Windows Vista machine into Safe Mode with Networking to check the result. I await your response. Sincerely, Joson Zhou Microsoft Online Community Support
