Slow remote desktop connection from Windows 7 to XP
Hello, I would like to ask a question on Windows 7 remote desktop connection to XP. I have recently upgraded to Windows 7 64-bit professional version and because lots the old applications are still on an 32-bit XP desktop computer, I am using Remote Desktop to connect to that. There is just a network cable connecting the two computer without any intervening router or anything else. The length of the network is no more than three feet. In this direct connection situation, I expect the speed to be good. However, it turns out there is a rather significant lag, especially when dragging windows or scroll bar in any application. If I am viewing a long MS Word document or browsering web page in IE in the connected XP machine, there is a clearly perceivable delay between my mouse action and the screen refresh. If I am dragging the scroll bar fast, it looks even like that the bar is "chasing" the mouse which is running ahead. Is this common to remote desktop connections? I have found an hotfix here, http://support.microsoft.com/kb/831172 Mouse pointer movement is not smooth in Microsoft Remote Desktop Connection But after following the steps (including registry modification) and reboot the speed didn't get improved. Put it simply: can I somehow increase the refresh rate for RDP connection, like we do for graphic card/screen? Why on a directly connected computer I cannot get so much delay? Could anyone help me on this? Bob
