Sound card not working properly
I have a custom built desktop PC, with a EVGA Nvidia nForce 690i SLI motherboard, I have been using the sound card on the motherboard since I built it about 2 years ago. I never had any issues with sound while running Windows XP, however when I moved and lost my Windows XP disc I decided to upgrade to Windows 7. I bought an upgrade disc from my school, and did a custom install as my old operating system was giving me problems and slower than a snail crawling over a salty rock. Since upgrading to Windows 7 I have been unable to get Windows to properly recognize my sound card, and nothing I have tried has worked to solve the problem. I have unistalled the sound card drivers a few times, always forced to reinstall directly from the manufacturer because Windows doesn't properly recognize my sound card. I have tried all the little tricks that I have found all over the web and nothing works. I tried to get a Microsoft Tech to directly connect to my PC and fix the problem but my copy of windows wasn't properly recognized and it wouldn't go through. I am perplexed as to how I am supposed to correct this problem please help me out here.

Do you think that it might be a good idea to mention which sound card you have?

You should make sure that you are using the latest driver for your sound card (I recommand also to use the latest drivers for your motherboard because it may cause such problems). If this does not help, I recommand to you to see with the Technical support of your hardware provider. This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties or guarantees , and confers no rights.

I am using the sound card built into the motherboard as stated in the original post. My apologies. I'd usually refer to the onboard sound or onboard sound controller, rather than sound card, but you stated it clearly. It appears that the chipset drivers eVGA supplies are the same as the latest WHQL ones from nVidia: 15.53. The Realtek drivers at eVGA aren't the latest. There are newer ones: http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/downloadsView.aspx?Langid=1&PNid=24&PFid=24&Level=4&Conn=3&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false I doubt that they will help, though. Is the onboard sound turned on in your BIOS settings? Do you have any sort of sound device in Device Manager?
