Spacebar CTD
Anyone have an idea why the space bar throws me out of a full screen gaming session? I have W7 Ultimate and I'm playing Unreal Tournament. It is the key I use to move forward. Thanks!

Go to Start and in the Search box, type in "sticky keys" without the quotes. Click on "Change how my keyboard works." Clear the check boxes under the "Make it easier to type" section and see if that takes care of the problem. SC Tom -There's no such thing as TMI when asking for tech support.

Thanks SC Tom for the most excellent tip, but, they are all ready un-ticket. I wonder if me using the ctrl+alt+delete key causes the 'make it easier to type' to toggle? I'm at a loss here, and will also ask around the URT game forum. If you or someone else has another idea please advise. Thanks!

check your input keyboard settings for UT. Spacebar is typically assigned to jump\up. Windows keyboard shortcuts avoid the spacebar.

Do you mean key assignments for game functions? I use the spacebar for forward on other games with no problem. Well, with Vista I did. This is the first game I tried a game with my new install of W7U. Thanks so much!

Sorry. Setup is your preference. I noticed when I tapped the spacebar on the UT main screen, it takes me to a profile screen. It has other actions on the other menu screens. No screen size change in game for me. Is it a wireless keyboard with assignable keys? Perhaps a mixup there. I am a WASD for movement. Sekhmet on Omnipotents, Unreal, and others.

I have a Saitek Eclipse, hard USB wired.

When you connected it, did Windows 7 find the sofware? I use the Cyborg and Windows 7 found the Saitek software when it first booted. Perhaps try Saitek's most recent software for the Eclipse. Remove the old version. Reboot and see if Windows finds the software. If, not try the version from Saitek. http://pcperipherals.saitek.com/down/downloads.php

All I did was do a fresh new install of W7U on the exact same pc, and everything works perfectly except this spacebar issue. Weird. I'll keep digging to find an answer. Thanks for your help.

OK, It's not just the game. When I hit the space bar when in the google search space, in FireFox, it jumps me back to desktop. Any clues?

The Windows keyboard shortcut for that is Win Logo + D. Seems the spacebar key is setup as a shortcut key. Going to desktop in UT would give you the small game Window. In Start=>Help and Support search create a keyboard shortcut. Perhaps you tapped ctrl + alt + spacebar one time and now that's a shortcut for the desktop. Read delete a shortcut a remove the spacebar shortcut.

Another idea is to reset the keyboard layout. Click Start\Control Panel\Ease of Access\Ease of Access Center\Make the keyboard easier to use. It's at the bottom. Reselect your keyboard region and type then select ok.

Reselect your keyboard region and type then select ok. I'll try that. I suspect it's something to do with a new W7 feature I'm not aware of. Some kind of a desktop shortcut sequence. Thanks!
