Start IE and Monitor Enters Power Save - unresponsive to crtl-alt-del.
Dell Inspiron 530 Core Duo 2.2Ghz 2Gb ram 250 Gig Hdd. XP SP3. ALL Drivers & WIN Updates are done. Vipre A/V and Firewall w/ Malwarebytes as backup and Hitman Pro 3.5 as cloud based AV scanner. I will attach HijackThis at end of explanation. I have developed a side issue that can only be resolved with the pasted picture. It is a print spooler start-stop command that a MSFT level 2 tech gave me over phone support 2 yrs ago. Side issue: whenever I restart, I have to run the following cmd in order for the printer to be seen> (it won't attach) it says: NET HELPMSG 3521. net stop spooler-net start spooler. the file is c:\\WINDOWS\system32\cmd-dot-exe.Now the problem:I am using Firefox for this because opening IE8 (which I uninstalled and reinstalled today to no avail) causes mouse to stop working and within 5 seconds i get black screen that says "1:AutoDetect (VIDEO OUTPUT) Entering Power Save" before going dark. The power button turns orange as if in hibernate. The display settings are> never turn off monitor or HDD along with "hibernate" NOT enabled. Once this happens, it is "locked down", unresponsive to 3 finger shut down. The only way to get the monitor back is a 10 second hold on the start/stop button. Below is a fresh HIJACkThis. I ran dxdiag and found that ddraw is a problem: it is an old dll from2004.First problem:How do I fix ddraw.dll if it didn't repair when I reloaded all the 9c DirectX files from http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyID=2da43d38-db71-4c1b-bc6a-9b6652cd92a3? Problem with IE8 and outlook crashing is still there. Specifically, the mouse freezes and within 10 seconds the monitor goes black and says "1:AutoDetect (video input)" and goes black. ctrl-alt-del does nothing. I have to hard stop the cpu by press and hold of stop button. Next, I found I am missing MCSTRM ,event ID 7000. Also the print spooler hasn't worked in 2 yrs and a level2 tech at MSFT gave me a Windows NT cmd script to get it started and then sent me to Softpedia to get dial-a-fix. Please help. Firefox and Excel work w/no problem. Just IE8 and Outlook 2007 crash.XP SP3 Dell inspiron 530 desktop. 2gb ram. Vipre anti-virus and firewall. Thanks,Mark

Hi Mark Schmud, ·What is the error message when you Internet explorer or outlook crashes?·Do you remember any recent changes made on the computer prior to the issue?·When do you receive the error with MCSTRM missing? 1. Check the device status of the video adapter in device manager.Follow the steps for the same:a. Click on startb. Click on run, in run box type in devmgmt.mscc. In device manager window, search for the video drive and expand the drive, double click on the sub item to check if any error message or error code is listed. 2.Check for the exact error message and error code listed in event viewer: How to view and manage event logs in Event Viewer in Windows XP:http://support.microsoft.com/kb/308427 Try the below methods: Method 1:Runonline virus scan and check if any malware or virus activity found on the computer. You may run online virus scan from the below link:http://onecare.live.com/site/en-us/default.htm Method 2:Check the behavior by booting the computer in clean boot state. You may refer the below link on how to configure Windows XP to start in a "clean boot" state:http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310353If the issue does not persist you may continue with step 2 from the above link.Make sure you reset the computer to normal mode after the troubleshooting completes. Refer the section “Steps to configure Windows to use a Normal startup state” Method 3:For the issue with printer spooler I would suggest you to follow the steps from the below link: Printer problems in Windows:http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/help/printer-problems-in-windows Regards:Samhrutha G S - Microsoft Support.Visit our Microsoft Answers Feedback Forum and let us know what you think.
