Start Menu Problem - bug
Start Menu Problem:The only way I have found to clear the anomaly is to create a new user account. This, actually, was a good choice since I can now document the steps for arriving at the same problem for testing purposes. Pic1: Click on Start, right click white space on left of the start menu and select "Properties". Pic2: Un-check the two Privacy boxes and click OK Pic3: Click on Start. Start Menu pops up and has no items on left pane. This looks wierd, all that empty space on the left with the useful items on the right. I wonder, "Can I move my profile to the other side?" Pic4: Drag the cat profile to the left, or whatever picture/username you are using. What is this? A Library folder? I must have misclicked. So, let's do it again. By now, you have a mess and when you click on the "Library" folder to remove it, you discover that "Open" is the only option. I don't know how to fix this and would appreciate help.P.S. Another bug: when creating this new profile an empty folder appears on the desktop with no text. Double clicking it does not open anything. I don't know what it is and I did not put it there.T.R.I have successfully followed these steps in three profiles, one on a domain, one local Windows 7 style, and one local classic desktop. If the Privacy boxes are re-checked, the bug stays anyway. If the Quick Launch toolbar on the taskbar is removed, the bug stays. None of the other Taskbar properties seem to resolve the issue.

Hi, In Windows 7 beta build 7000, this behavior is by design. If you open profile from Start menu, Libraries is launched. There are several discussions related this behavior, and our developers has already noticed that.Arthur Xie - MSFT

Thanks for the reply,A. I found on one of the discussions a registry hack and automated download to fix this anomaly but am unwilling to run it because I don't believe the average user would actually know how. So, for now I will wait for the official patch from MS.B. Any word on the mysterious untitled folder, that is created by default on the desktop?Double-click does nothing. When I right-click and properties I get...T.R.
