Static IP address shows blank in GUI but network still works (somewhat).
I have an issue where at least 2 machines in my environement have a blank IPv4 address showing in the Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) Properties page. The computer is connected to the network and I am able to connect to it remotely using DameWare but when I try to run a NetSH command on the system it fails. The issue happens on two different hardware types (one a Lenovo T410 and the other an Hp Netbook). I thought there might be an issue with the hardware but everything else seems to be working properly and the computer models are identical to others we have deployed in our environment that are not experiencing this issue.

Hi, Sorry for my late reply. Could you manually configure IP address on that PC? According to the result of ipconfig, there’s no DHCP server on your workaround. Did the issue appear before? Please update the NIC card to the latest version, also update BIOS. Furthermore, you can disable NIC card, then enable it again to see the result. Hope that helps. The PC is at a site that does not have DHCP available. The option that is working is to set it up as a static IP address. However if the user reboots their system they loose the information and have to enter it in again. We have imaged 40 others of this model using the exact same driver set and there are no issues. On a different machine (a Lenovo T410) I re-imaged it 3 times and it had the same issue each time. The issue definitely persists through reboots so I think we can rule out disabling the NIC as a fix. We have also had this issue on a Lenovo M58. There does not appear to be any commonality other than Windows 7 and all the applications we install in our image. But why would only certain systems have the problem and others are fine.

Hi, Please logon with Safe Mode to see if the same issue occurs. If the issue persists in Safe Mode, the components may corrupted on your machine. You can try to perform an in-place upgrade for test: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2255099 Hope that helps. Regards, Leo Huang TechNet Subscriber Support in forum.
