Stop Error when changing network configuration
I'm having major problems with my ip configuration settings. I want to be able to use a fixed ip address and gateway for my wireless network connection. The problem is that after I've changed the configuration of the IP version 4 connection properties to the fixed ip I want to use and ok it. My system crashes with a Stop error (Bsod) implicating the file tcpipreg.sys as the culprit.Ive tried disabling Ip version 6 as I thought that maybe they were clashing somehow, but other than that it seems Im stuck using DHCP which is annoying as the reason I am trying to switch off DHCP is to solve another problem. Namely that Every time I start up my computer my connection shows Limited or no connectivity and I am forced to either Diagnose and Repair my connection or ipconfig /renew in order to get an outside connection. The adapter is a Realtek RTL8187 and is an integrated device on my Asus P5N32-SLI Premium Motherboard. My specs areAsus P5n-32 SLI PremiumIntel Core 2 Duo E6700 2.66 Ghz (Stock Speed)2Gb Corsair TWINX2048-6400C4 800MhzOnboard Soundmax HD SoundXFX Geforce 7950GX2 520M 1GbDDR3Vista Ultimate 64bitThis is what Windbg came up with when I ran the Memory.dmp through itMicrosoft (R) Windows Debugger Version 6.8.0004.0 AMD64Copyright (c) Microsoft Corporation. Hi, Thank you for the post. I fully understand the inconvenience the issue has caused and the current situation can be frustrating. However, please understand that Microsoft provides different support services which have different service levels and support boundaries. Debugging (dump analysis) is beyond our Forums support boundary. I'd like to suggest contacting Microsoft Customer Support Service (CSS) for assistance. To obtain the phone numbers for specific technology request please visit the website listed below: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=fh;EN-US;PHONENUMBERS Thank you for your understanding and cooperation. Hi, Thanks I realize that debugging is beyond the scope of this forum but does anyone have any simplesuggestions as to what I can try to get round thisbefore I have to shell out 46.00 just to speak to someone at microsoft. Do you know of any way I can change my ip config without using the "networkconnection properties"?What would I need tomanually edit in the registry to achive the same outcome? Is anyone aware of tcpipreg.sys causing any problems in the past? What does tcpipreg.sys do? can I get a newer version? etc. Thanks, sorry to pester but 46 is a lot of money for a phone call (I'm way beyond my 90days from activation)

Hi, You may configure the IP address by using netsh command. Example: netsh interface ipv4 set address name="Local Area connection" static 10.0.0.9 255.0.0.0 10.0.0.1 1 For more information, please refer to the following article: Netsh commands for Interface IP http://technet2.microsoft.com/windowsserver/en/library/61427fbd-de1f-4c8a-b613-321f7a3cca6a1033.mspx?mfr=true Hope the information is helpful.
