Stored Usernames and passwords deleted on reboot
We recently switched over to IBM Thinkpad T410's at work Running XP with all the latest upgrades/patches. Most of us are having problems mapping network drives to another domain. When you reboot, you are prompted to reenter your password to explore the mapped drive. The passwords are not remembered even though you checked the reconnect at login option when you mapped the drive (and added the domain specific username/passwd). I fixed the problem on my machine by changing the value of the HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Network\"driveLetter"\DeferFlags key from 1 to 4. Additionally, I changed the subkey to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Protected Storage System Provider to inherit the permissions of its parent (giving it admin rights instead of just system rights).I'm not sure which of the above solved the problem on my machine but my drives now automatically connect and I can see the drive/username in the Stored Usernames and Passwords.I tried the same changes on a coworkers machine and it didn't work! Each time he reboots he is prompted for a password again. Additionally the drive/username vanishes from the Stored Usernames and Passwords even if I manually input it there and then reboot (haven't tried command line entry with net use).Equally puzzling is the if I delete all the mapped drives, verify they have been removed from the registry, and then remap them and choose reconnect at login option, they will always be created with the DeferFlags set to 1. I have to manually change it to 4 (My understanding that 1 = don't save pass, 4 = save)I've searched high and low...found loads of people experiencing similar problem...but no solution. Help would be greatly appreciated1 person needs an answerI do too
