Strange Windows 7 File Sharing Issue
This one has me stumped. I have a network with 4 XP machines and 2 Win7 Machines. I have set up public shares on every machine and nearly everything works fine. For some reason the 2 Win7 machines can't access a share on one of the XP machines (asking for username and password.) However, the XP machines can access this share (on the same machine) no problem without username and password. Here's what I've tried: Creating the same user and password on both machines Logging in with different usernames and passwords Disabling/enabling simple file sharing Adding permissions for everyone to NTFS and share Lots of other things including playing with local policy etc. The Win7 machines have no problem accessing shares on other XP machines on the network.. it's just this one machine. The shares on the Win7 machines are publicy accessible by every other machine on the network also. I'm pulling my hair out and I hope someone has an idea what might be causing this. Thanks in advance tooner

Hi Tooner, Would you please let me know after entering the credential, could you access to the shared folder? Windows 7 ensure the credential exists on Windows XP machines and then allow it to access the share folder. To fix it, please disable any security software or firewall on both sides temporarily. Before accessing it, make sure you can ping the folder. You also could use IP instead of path name. If the issue persists, please modify the following group policy. Computer Configuration\Windows Settings\Security Settings\Local Policies\Security Options\Network security: LAN Manager authentication level Please change to "Send LM & NTLM - use NTLMv2 session security if negotiated".
