Stubborn icon
Hopefully I'm in the right place... I tried to put a shortcut to a web site (JigZone) in the "games" folder, but it didn't work. I ended up with a dead icon that I cannot even delete. Can anyone tell me how to get rid of it? Neither right click nor left click yield anything. Thanks.

Hi bjclark,
First, please check if the game icon exists in this folder: C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Games. If so, please delete it.
However, if the game icon does not exist on the above folder, please try the following steps to remove its registry key from Registry Editor:
1. Click the "Start" button, type "regedit" (without quotation marks) in the "Search" bar, right click on the "regedit.exe" found in the list and then click "Run as administrator".
2. Navigate to the following key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\GameUX\Games
3. Right click the Games entry on the left pane, choose "Export", select "Desktop" in the "Save in" box and type "backup" (without quotation marks) in "File Name". Click "Save".
Please Note: The backup file is on the Desktop and named "backup.reg". We can simply restore the registry by double-clicking the "backup.reg" file.
4. Expand Games key on the left pane.
5. Select each long number subkey and look in the right pane for the AppExePath name data to see if that is the name of the game (ex: Solitaire) you would like to delete.
6. Once the game is found, please right click on the long number subkey on the left pane of the game and then click Delete.
7. Exit the Registry Editor.
The game icon should be deleted from the Game Explorer.

Linda

Hi Linda!
Thanks for your reply. I followed all of your very good instructions but the icon isn't showing up in either place. I know I was in the right spots as all of the other games were listed. Is there anything else I can try? Thanks
again.

Hi bjclark,
What about the keys under
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\GameUX?
Please try the steps below to see if the game can be found:
1.
Click the "Start" button, type "regedit" (without quotation marks) in the "Search" bar, right click on the "regedit.exe"
found in the list and then click "Run as administrator".
2.
Navigate to the following key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\GameUX
3.
There are several long numbers (also called GUIDs) listed under GAMEUX.
4.
Click on each one until you see the info on the Right side of the window.
5.
Once you find the key info that contains the name of the ICON you want to remove, just right click on it and delete that registry entry folder.
Note: Please back up the registry key before editing it.
Regards,
Linda

Sorry... not there either. The inactive icons are actually shortcuts to a web page. I dragged one of them to the Games folder, and put the other one there according to Microsoft instructions. Any other ideas? I appreciate your help.
Thanks.
