Successful IP lease, but failed ping and comms
I am running a simple 2 PC network at home. Both PC's are running XP. I have successfully had this network running with Internet Connection Sharing for approximately 1 year. Due to performance issues I decide to format the host PC. No hardware change was made, but I did load updated drivers for all devices (including NIC - Intel Pro 100) on the formated PC. Since the reload I am unable to ping between the 2 PC's. The loop back Ping is working fine on both PC's. What is really baffling is the fact that by using ipconfig /all I can see that the client PC is successfully leasing a new IP address from the host, but still there is no communication and ping fails. I have repeatedly run the Network Setup Wizard on both machines using different computer names (and even changing the workgroup name) to force it to renew the connection. Every time I can see that the client is successfully obtaining a new IP lease from the host, but still communication and ping is unavailable. I use AVG free edition and Windows Firewall. I have also disabled Windows Firewall on both machines, but it made no difference. I have tried putting the client on a fixed IP (192.168.0.2), but this also failed to resolve the problem. I am at wits end, please assist.1 person needs an answerI do too

Please give us more information to help understand the problem:Have you verified that the host PC's LAN connection has a fixed IP address of 192.168.0.1?What IP address are you pinging on each PC? Can each PC ping its own IP address (not the loopback address)? Have you tried turning ICS off, then turning it back on? Boulder Computer MavenMicrosoft Most Valuable Professional

Thanks for the reply, but the problem got solved last night. I uninstalled the Intel driver for the NIC and re-installed an older version I had on disk. This instantly solved the problem, so I can only assume there is a problem with the most recent Intel driver. Thanks again.
