Switching between Wireless Networks
Hi, I used to have a xp pro laptop that i used for both work and home use. I was able to connect to both wireless networks by logging in as a local administrator and changing the LAN settings by ticking or unticking the proxy server box in internet explorer properties. This procedure cannot be repeated in Vista Business on my new laptop. The system administrator is the only one who can make the changes. This makes it riduculus as it means he needs to login in every day to change the settings. Is there away of avoiding this situation? Thankyou

Hi Boltboi, Thank you for the post. Before we go further, I would like to confirm the following points with you: 1. Does the computer join domain? 2. Is there any policy being applied on this computer? 3. Is the Proxy server check box (IE > Internet Options > Connections > LAN settings > Proxy server) is greyed out when the issue occurs? In addition, I tried to logon my Windows Vista machine with a domain user/standard User account and found that I can tick and untick the check box. In this case, I suggest creating another administrator account to check the result. Hope it helps. Sincerely, Joson Zhou Microsoft Online Community Support

Hi Joson, The computer joins the domain without issue. Solved the problem by getting the system administrator of the domain to log onto the computer and then we turned off UAC. This seemed to rectify the problem so that i regained access to the Proxy server check box whilst logging on as a local administrator. Thankyou. Boltboi
