System State restore from restore point failed on a single IE temp file, WTF ?
Following a battery failure on a user laptop, Windows 7 wouldn't restart properly.
Symptoms :
-Boot OK, then logging in OK for 2s then, BSOD "registry error 0x00000051". Same for all users (local or domain)
- Safe mode working well (any user).
I got it back to operation using the F8 then "last know good configuration".
But first, Safe Mode being OK, I tried to restore the system state from a restore point.
Going back to the last restore point failed miserably upon restarting. The error message was something like c:\blabla\Internet Explore\cache\alkjlkhdlskjhdf.js failed to be restored.
Huuu ??? The entire restore point process fails on an obscure IE temporary file. Can't believe it.
Any way to restore the Registry only ?
