System files which should be owned by system account - Windows 7
Hello, I am not sure if there is a script, or such like, that can help but I hope so. I have a user who has, from a dubious description of what they were trying to do, inadvertently taken ownership of system files on their machine which has resulted in many system components not working. As I say exactly what they were doing is not information that is readily available, user being somewhat sheepish now, but all indications point indeed to what I suspect. Due to this I would like to return ownership of the appropriate files to the system account and am hoping that someone out there knows of a wonder script I can run to complete this. I am desperately trying to avoid manually doing this or, worse yet, rebuilding. Any and all help is very much appreciated. Many thanks,

Hi, Regarding the file permissions, you can use the built in command line tool ICACLS /restore to restore file security that has been backed up using the /save switch on the same machine from a prior working state. This method can be used to compare the results from an identical working machine to a failing one. For more information about ICACLS command, you can use ICACLS /? for help. If you want to use script to achieve this automatically, I recommend to contact Microsoft script forum.
