System running slow after updating to XP Service Pack 3
So this computer has been through it all. with people who knew nothing about computers. It originally had SP 2 but the whole system got jumbled up due to a add on machine. Other people swiped the drive, incorrectly, leaving bits and pieces behind. then installed the very first XP. This all happened 3 years ago and now the computer has been handed down to me. I tried to update the computer and I am trying to delete the duplicated files from before, but now that I have downloaded and installed SP3 the system is extremely slow and takes numerous minutes to turn on. Even to right click on something takes at least 5 seconds to pop up. It takes around 20 minutes to open a browser. The system had errors before but was not slow at all before I did the update. Also, when you turn on the system, it shows a black screen with a blinking . in the top left corner, and it stays there for quite some time. Then it go to the windows screen, allows me to log in (by the way its a one user system), then takes forever to get things going. So I am wondering why is the system so slow? How can I fix it?And if anyone happens to know how to fix the other problems I am having I'd greatly appreciate it!1 person needs an answerI do too

Depends, do you have the winxp installation disk with key, or do you have a recovery disk with key?

If I acquired a used computer, no matter who previously owned it, thefirst thing I would do with it would be to reinstall the operatingsystem cleanly. You have no idea how the computer has been maintained, what has been installed incorrectly, what is missing, what viruses andspyware there may be, etc. I wouldn't want to live with somebodyelse's mistakes and problems, possibility of kiddy p0rn, etc., and Iwouldn't recommend that anyone else do so either.
