TCP/IPv6 and TCP/IPv4 problem
I upgrade from Windows XP Media Center to Vista Ultimate to 7 Ultimate. The only way I can access my ISP is with TCP/IPv4 enabled. To set up a homegroup, I need TCP/IPv6 enabled also. When this happens I lose my internet connection upon rebooting. I get no connection with v6 alone. To recitfy the problem, I dsable v4, then re-enable; then repeat for v6.What can i do to be able to access the internet AND a homegroup. BTW: my ISP is FiOS.Rich

Hi, How does the computer connect to Internet, via switch or router? Here are some suggestions you can try: 1. Enable IPv6 and IPv4 a. Open "Network Connections" window, right click the "Local Area Connection" and click Properties. b. Select "Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6)" and "Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)" c. Click OK. 2. Configure the connection to obtain an IP address automatically ======================================= a. Click "Start", input "NCPA.CPL" (without quotation marks) to Start Search bar and press "Enter". b. Right-click the network connection and click "Properties". If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation. c. Click to highlight "Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6)" and click "Properties". d. Check "Obtain an IP address automatically" and "Obtain DNS server address automatically". e. Click "OK". f. Click to highlight "Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)" and click "Properties". g. Check "Obtain an IP address automatically" and "Obtain DNS server address automatically". h. Click "OK". i. Reboot the computer. What's the result? If the issue persists, please collect the following information for research. 1. Click the Start Button and type "cmd" (without quotation marks) in the open box. 2. Right click CMD and click "Run as Administrator" option, and then click Yes. 3. In the open command window, input the following command and press Enter Key after it. Ipconfig /all >C:\pingresult.txt 4. Please open Computer and navigate to C:\ folder to find the "pingresult.txt" file and post the result here. Thanks, Novak
