Taking over permission from non-encrypted hard drive
Buddy has a non-bootable HD from a laptop. I've connected the non-bootable drive to his laptop via an Apricorn Drivewire device and it is mountable on the desktop in Win 7 Ultimate. The non-bootable drive was from an XP Home Edition OS.
We're trying to recover his iTunes library from the Documents and Settings folder but it says we do not have the proper permissions to copy it to from the old HD to the new one. Tried to use the option to take over permission but that does not appear to
be working.
Any suggestion on how to take over permission of items on the old HD?

Here is an interesting approach

Others recommend taking ownership from safe mode.

From reading the article, while we can take ownership of the files, we might not be able to full permission of the files. Is there a way to take over permission for the files after taking ownership of them?

Given that the files on the old hard drive are from his old XP Home Edition installation and we are trying to take full control of them (Ownership) and access them by moving them from the old hard drive to his hard drive (gaining Permissions), would
the info in this link be applicable:

If you are using Windows 7 to copy the files then I would think the article should apply. If you were in XP copying from a Win7 disk then no.Colin Barnhorst Windows 7 Ultimate x64 on DIY with 6GB ram.
