Ten seconds of black screen w/blinking cursor after boot before XP Pro loads??
Dell Optiplex GX250 Series desktop PC boots; then I get a black screen with a blinking cursor that lasts about 10 seconds. Then the Windows load screen appears and XP Pro loads (if a little slowly). It's annoying. This started around the time I upgraded from IE6 to IE8...and/or when I finally let Microsoft put some updates on the PC, and let it run its monthly scan for malicious software.I tried to use XP Repair but it asks for an Administrator pword and I never set one up (do *not* want to if I don't have to).I've run Avast, both a regular scan and a boot scan - the PC's clean. No malware either (Malwarebytes Anti-Malware). Both are up to date.I haven't upgraded or installed drivers, no new hardware, and I haven't messed with the bios.Any suggestions would be appreciated!1 person needs an answerI do too

Hi,Try settings as follows:Start your computer and enter BIOS (by pressing del key on the keyboard or refer your computer manual how to enter CMOS / BIOS) Change the boot priority and select your hard-drive as first boot device. It should resolve your problem else:Start your computer, click Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> System -> Advanced -> Click "Startup and Recovery" Reduce the time in "Time to display recovery options..." also try reduce the time in "Time to display operating system list" (You can remove tickmark if you have only one operating system.Hope this helps.
