The network password needs to be 40 bits or 104 bits depending on your network configuration.
I got a fix for connecting one of my netbooks to the internet yesterday from this threadhttp://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/xpinstall/thread/4c2688b6-247c-467a-89dd-a0c164ec4b89/on how to reconnect to the internet. When I follow the steps that LemP suggests, I get the message"The network password needs to be 40 bits or 104 bits depending on your network configuration. This can be entered as 5 or 13 ascii characters or 10 or 26 hexadecimal characters."The only thing that happened before this was that the battery died and went into hibernation mode. I was wondering if anyone could help me with what to do to get this fixed. Edit: this is an acer netbook that I'm trying to connect with.1 person needs an answerI do too

HiTo be secure Wireless needs encryption. There are few kinds of Wireless Networks, and the answer by LemP related to an issue of the OP having the wrong Wireless configuration for the network that he is On.The wrong configuration mentioned in the thread is business 802.1x, when it is switched off there is still a need for regular password in order to log to a regular secure home Wireless. Which is probably what your Wireless comes up with.I do not know what you are trying to connect to (or what else you are doing) but apparently the connection that you are looking at is secured and you need to know the password.Otherwise, tell us the all story in details, so we can try to give you an answer rather guessing.Wireless Basic Configuration - http://www.ezlan.net/Wireless_Config.htmlWireless Security - http://www.ezlan.net/Wireless_Security.html Jack-MVP Windows Networking.
