Things I Want Added to Windows 7
I am currently working as a sys admin and I recently downloaded and installed Windows 7 RC1 32bit on a test computer. Some things I would like added to Windows 7 are:* Drivers for Sound Blaster Live!(Does Microsoft realize the number of computers that have SoundBlaster Live! cards?, they are almost an industry standard).* Drivers for ATI Radeon 9000 family and NVIDIA GeForce 256. I am not sure what ATI Radeon this computer has, but it is in the 9000 family, e.g. 9000, 9100, 9200, etc).Does Microsoft realize the number of computers that have ATI Radeon 9000 family or GeForce 256 video cards? * Drivers for Microsoft LifeCam USB Webcams. I was wondering if these might now be included, but they aren't.I would not mind if the above drivers were available via Windows Update, but they aren't. Based upon my experience with Windows 7 RC1, I am afraidMicrosoft is going to make me work harder. Whenever a user wants to upgrade to Windows 7, I am going to have to pick thru these manufactures websites andhope to find the proper driver. This stinks, and makes me admire Linux for its online driver repositories. (wouldn't it be nice if Windows used Linux drivers?)** So please Microsoft, please include drivers for the popular hardware that is out there. **BTW, my guess is Microsoft plans to sell moreWindows 7 OEM licenses than new or upgrade licenses. But they are forgetting the people (sys admins) who approve of the systems a company is going to use. If Microsoft wants to make Windows 7 popular, they need to make it easy for Sys Admins to install on existing hardware.Keller Beyer

Hi KellerI'm afraid that you have some misconceptions.Hardware drivers are the copyrighted (sometimes patented) property of the hardware manufacturer. The decision to submit these drivers for inclusion on Windows Update or on the Windows installation disk is made by the hardware device manufacturer. These drivers are placed on the installation disks and Windows Updateas a service for hardware manufacturers to help distribute their drivers for Windows products. Also, the driver store that is included in the Windows 7 Release Candidate build was completely rebuilt, just prior to release, to remove many drivers that were determined to be problematic during the Beta1 phase and because many of the Windows 7 compatible drivers were still under development, by the hardware manufacturers(and still are) when that build was made available. Hope this helps Thank You for testing Windows 7 Ronnie Vernon MVP
