Too many shares are made available offline
I currently have the GPO enabled "Administratively assigned offline files" and specified the following path to be made always available online: \\server\data\share1\%username% When i look in a users sync center, to my surprise i see all kinds of other shares that have been made offline as well. For example: \\server\data\share2 We only want this specific path to be made available offline: \\server\data\share1\%username%. What GPO for windows 7 does one need to configure to prevent other shares from becoming available offline as well ?

Hi, Are you using GP Preference? How does it work if you quote the UNC path? If it does not work please let us know which folders you are configuring to be available offline. Also please let us know how the offline files work if you disable this policy. Dp Preference? Do you mean folder redirections? Then yes, we are using folder redirection for only the favorites, documents and desktop. However they are all redirected to \\server\data\share1\%username%. When i turn off "Administratively assigned offline files" offline files still works for \\server\data\share1\%username% which makes sense since by default redirected folders are automatically made available offline, which is what we want. However there is no redirection what so every going on to \\server\data\share2. With another user there are sync partnerships present to (windows xp) computer shares. So for example \\computer\c$. I asked the user, all he has done was copy some files over to \\computer\c$. Where are all these sync partnersships coming from? And why are they there and why can i not remove them (Stop sync with.. is grayed out)?

Can you remove the other sync relationships exist if you do not apply this policy? How does it work if you do not apply this policy to a new client computer? Is the path \\server\data\share1 a real path or just a sample? How does it work if you redirect other folders, not user profile folder? If you redirect other folders it is not automatically available offline. Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question. No, i can not remove any syncpartnerships, whether the "Administratively assigned offline files" gpo is enabled or not. \\server\data\share1 is just a sample. I did what you asked and redirected other folders. Then loggedon with a fresh user and even then the "\\server\data" folder was present in the syncpartnerships. So anything under \\server\data can be made available offline by any user and is being cached. I also tried to enable the policy "Do not not automatically make redirected folders available offline." That also made no difference. The syncpartnership for \\server\data\ was still there after enabling that. I also checked the offline settings on the share "\\server\data\" and it is configured for "Only files and programs that users specifiy will be available offline". Please bear in mind that "\\server\data\" is a DFS share. However that does not matter, because syncpartnerships for normal computer shares are present as well. Is there any way to totally disable caching to every share except for one?

So you mean that all offline folders are under \\server\data. Is that correct? Is there any space in the name of \\server\data\share1? If so, please quote the UNC path in GP configuration. Additionally I actually suggested that you redirect another folder rather than any folder in \\server\data, for example, redirect \\server\data1\share and make it available offline. How does it work in this situation? Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question. Hi, sorry for the late reply, we did get this issue solved by simply no longer using dfs paths. The user's homedirectory now contains the computername of the homeshare instead of the dfs path. Regrettably we are now experiencing a rather serious issue that no sync partnership exist for a second user that logs onto Windows 7. I would really appreciate if you could help us out with that.
