Hi there, I am running W7 64 Ultimate, and I have been getting a freeze every time I boot up from 0-3 mins after boot up. boot up in Safe mode, absolutely fine. Try a clean boot and still no dice, after disabling all but MS services in MSconfig, So no startup items and no services except the MS ones. I am stumped. Have looked in Event log and the only thing that jumps out is a bad sector on disk 3 (my external back up drive). Can anybody point me in the right direction, have been running this W7 install for a good month or so now with no problems, its just started doing this literally today. This is bugging the ____ out of me am just in the middle of updating my mb drivers and such. But all my security services have been turned off (bitdefender, windows defender, windows security centre). So I am loath to connect up to the net on that machine. Any ideas? I thought possibly virus as it was all my security services that were switched off Booted it completely clean (device and services) and it was ok, until I opened an app. I tried two apps IE8 and FL Studio 9.5, my studio software and upon opening it froze. looks that you are right, it could be a virus. It could also be anything else. So lets Isolate first the posibility of a virus. logon to safemode with networking Download, install and scan using Malwarebytes Anti Malware also scan with prevX3.0 . (prevX is a free scanner but removal is for a fee. If you have results in prevX you may proceed to either purchase the license or manually remove the infected files or registry). Hi Cesabarre, Thanks for helping me, its really a bit of a nightmare. have downloaded Malwarebytes and am running a full scan as we speak. Am just about to d/l prevx3.0 and run that too. Unfortunately for some reason there is no memory dump happening, so I can't post a dump file to examine (it is set up though). I just ran statup repair and it gave the following error message: Root cause found: Unspecified changes to system configuration might have caused the problem. Repair action: Sytem files integrity check and repair. Result: Failed - Error code=0x490 Time taken=459688ms But why would XP be affected by a W7 system files problem? For me its still hardware, as per Kens reply. So where do we go from here then?

your system runs fine in safemode you mentioned, that should be enough to assume hw is fine. Do you think it could possibly be a driver/shared driver issue? A friend of mine mentioned that that could be the case. Also, I have saved the event files off, but is there a way to u/l them to the technet? I am experiencing something similar too. I got this error recently on BSOD: 0x0000007E. I have windows 7 64 bit Ultimate on my pc. I had been experiencing random freezes for almost 3 months without any solutions. I formatted my drive and reinstalled the OS, after some time it starts freezing all over again. My system config is i7 920 processor 6gb RAM DDR3 2X 7200 rpm drives (1 TB and 1.5 TB), OS is installed on 1 TB drive. 600 watts PS XFX 5770 graphics card Asus p6TD v2 Motherboard.
