I just got a laptop, an Acer Aspire V5, running windows 8 and I can't get it to connect to the computer at work. I've tried using the RDC app that comes with the windows 8 and it'll let me get as far as logging on before it says I can't connect. The message that pops up says "Your computer can't connect to the remote computer because an error has occurred on the remote computer that you want to connect to." I've talked to a few people at work and my computer should be able to connect, I have a MacBook that connects to it. I've tried to allow the firewall but Remote Desktop isn't on the check list. Also when I go to the remote access part on the control panel there is only a box for remote assistance, not for remote desktop. Is there something else I should download or anything else I can try to get this computer to connect?

Use network monitor to resolve the network traffic. Look into Event logs and firnd if there are errors that point to RDC.
