Trouble setting up network between Windows 7 and Windows XP machines
I am trying to set up a network between my new Windows 7 laptop and my old laptop which is running Windows XP. On my Windows 7 laptop under "Networks" I am able to see the shared folder that represents my Windows XP machine. But when I attempt to open this folder, I get the following message: ***************** \\ComputerName\Folder is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions. Not enough server storage is available to process this command. ***************** I have read a few other posts about this issue but I haven't been able to solve the problem. If anyone can assist me I would greatly appreciate it. I am a complete newbie to networks so please forgive my ignorance! I just want to share some files between the two machines. Thank you!

Just a thought, is the above network connection running through a router or baiscally just using ICS? Is there any third party firewall on either notebook other than windows firewall itself? Btw is xp file sharing enable? Same goes to windows 7

1. Is the above network connection running through a router or basically just using ICS? Both notebooks use the router to connect to the internet (wirelessly). I'm not sure if that answers your question... 2. Is there any third party firewall on either notebook other than windows firewall itself? The XP has AVG, which is completely disabled. The 7 machine has Norton's Smart Firewall, but I tried disabling it and that didn't seem to make a difference. 3. Is xp file sharing enable? Same goes to windows 7. I tried to find this in the advanced settings for XP but I don't even see it listed, then I read that it is automatically enabled so maybe that is why? On Windows 7 I went to Network & Sharing/Advanced Settings and all of the sharing settings are set to "on". Sorry but I am completely new to this and just trying to figure it out. I apologize if my questions and/or replies aren't exactly what you are looking for... :) Thank you again for your help.

have you check the permissions on the shared folder? Maybe you need to grant permissions to access it from win7 machine.

I feel like such an idiot and let me tell you I am about to launch both computers out the window! I am clueless and I know that is obvious. Thank you for helping. I wanted to share the entire C:/ of my XP machine with my Win7 machine (so I could move a lot of files over to the new laptop). SO I went to Windows Explorer, right clicked on C:, selected Sharing and Security, and under the "Network Sharing and Security" section, I checked "share this folder on the network". Is that what you meant by permissions or was I supposed to change it somewhere else as well? Thank you!
