I recently deployed a brand new dell laptop with vista to one of our software engeneers. This engeneer is now experieincing an issue with his "home" folder on our file server. The issue he is having is that when he attempts to rename a file or folder he gets an error "you need permission to do that". Sometimes he gets this error when he attampts to delete an object from within the folder as well, however not always. If I go out to the DC and turn off his "home" folder and go to the file server and rename his folder he can access it and rename folders and files. If I rename the folder to the original name he looses the abiblity to rename objects. If I go back to his profile and set it to use the new folder name he looses the ability to rename objects as well. I have read that people are having some difficulties with renaming on network resources in vista, but I think this issue is a little different.Please advise!

Hi Robert, I learnt this issue from some OEM versions of Windows Vista. To solve it, you may try the following workaround. 1. Run regedit and explorer to HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\CSC\Parameters\. 2. Create a DWORD Value named FormatDatabase with a value of 1 (hex). 3. Reboot the machine. If it doesn't help, try to consult the OEM manufacture for more information. Thanks.
