Troubleshooting Windows 7
I recently was playing Rainbow six Vegas 2 on my Win7 PC and all was going well for a while when, All of a sudden, my whole system froze. I clicked the reset button on my tower and rebooted normally back into Windows 7. When it started back up, I noticed I had no sound and my taskbar had no graphics. It looked as though I had restarted into safe mode. I re-installed my sound drivers to no avail. So, I ran a virus scan. The antivirus I have currently installed is Antivir for Win7. I popped in a live disc and ran Mcaffee, Panda, Symantec, Spyware Doctor, Ewido and Spy Sweeper. Set them all to Maximum Thorough scan + remove. Together they found 4 threat positives and removed those. When i booted back up into Windows 7 I still had no sound and it still looked like I was in Safe Mode. I went into Administrative Tools->Services and tried re-starting my Services manually to no avail. Backup Services failed to start & Restore Services Also failed. Screenshot: http://img196.imageshack.us/img196/1566/systemfailure.jpg _ Now, either I had a virus that destroyed some of my services or Windows had some sort of bug. Either way, I had no idea what to do. So. I decided to just do a fresh install (which I wanted to avoid). Any ideas for future Issues on how One might troubleshoot this type of problem? Perhaps a Live Rescue disc or something of the sort? DocBob,see if your system is generating a Memory Dump File in the System properties, a File which you can examine when the error happens again. And also in the System properties, try lower the space allocated to the Virtual memory Page File.##Be Honest, Respect each other's input, don't steal ideas, don't say anything you will regret, and most important: have FUN with computing!##

DocBob,Did you try doing a system restore? Have you configured Windows Backup? A system image or restore point from before the problem existed might have helped you out.

System Restore wouldn't work. I reformatted and reinstalled. No logs. Nothing. It's working now.
