Trying to add network share to library causes error that target is not indexed.
Hi everybody, I'm trying to add network shares to my libraries but I keep getting errors that it is not indexed and that I need to make the folder offline. Well I can't exactly make a 700GB share offline nor would it make sense to. After some more diggging I found something about Windows Search but that component is turned on. So how do I add these shares to my libraries so they are consolidated in one easy to access spot? Thanks Pete

Hi, Please make sure you already enabled the Offline files. Do as the steps below to enable the Offline files setting. 1. Open control panel, point to Sync Center and click it. 2. Then open the Manage Offline Files. 3. Click enable the Offline Files.

Thanks for the reply. Is that the only method to add a network share to a library? As I mentioned this share is way too big to waste all that space on my local hard drive. I was asking if there is any other way to add to a library. thanks Pete

Is that the only method to add a network share to a library? Create on your local hard disc a folder with unusual name – e.g. "ABCXYZ" Add this folder to your libraryCopy your library file from C:\Users\<user-name>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Libraries\ to your desktop Open the library file with a text editor Search in the library file for text string "ABCXYZ" and replace with UNC path to your network share Save library file Move library file back to C:\Users\<user-name>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Libraries\

Thanks for the reply. This confirms that Windows search must be installed for a Win2k3 share which it is on my Win7 station and I do have it enabled. Apparently it is not working. Is there some special hidden command to active Window search? thx Pete
