Trying to share a HP printer (connected by USB cable to Desktop running XP) to new laptop running Windows 7
HelloI've managed to share the printer between the two computers, as mentioned in the title, but I can't print from my laptop if my desktop (to which the printer is attached) is turned off.Is there anyway around this? I have a netgear router and Windows 7 picks up the printer even when the desktop is off but says that it is offline.Your help is appreciated in advance.1 person got this answerI do too

HiThe only way around it is to get a Network printer.Network printer is plugged (or connect via Wireless) into the Router and thus can be accessed by any computer on the Network.Example, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16828115634&cm_re=wireless_printer-_-28-115-634-_-Product Jack-MVP Windows Networking.
