USB wireless stops working after a day or two
Hi,I have a strange issue with a Atheros 5007UG based USB 802.11g wireless adapter. Basically after a day or two I will return to the PC, almost always after suspend/resume, and find the network icon bottom-right showing with a yellow exclamation mark. Additionally the LED on the wireless adapter - which is normally steady will be OFF rather than flashing or ON. In this mode "scan for networks" lists no networks.3/4 of the time I can unplug the wireless adapter, replug, and it will then work again.1/4 of the time this does not work. The adapter shows as enabled in device manager, but any attempt to "disable" will result in device manager hanging. Further it seems other device ops then hang. Even a reboot will not complete without POWEROFF+4s.The system is a Dell Dimension 5150 desktop, with Intel Pentium D 2.8Ghz (2 core) with 3Gb ram & running Vista Ultimate x64 RTM+public fixes. I've also installed all relevant hotfixes for wireless & usb I could find to no avail. With an internal PCI card (netgear wg311t) this did not occur afaik, although I had to remove that card due to it causing stuttering with my Digital TV card (terratec Cinergy 2400iDT)An additional PC (Thinkpad T60p) with another wireless atheros 802.11g device (AR5006EX?) connects to the same router (netgear dg834gt, 1.02.04 fw, running WPA-PSK) and experiences no dropouts. The wireless driver is 2.0.0.125 (2.0.0.127 I've found, but it doesn't work). The driver for the working device is 7.3.1.42.Any ideas? Anyone seen this? Same or different card?Recommendations for trace/debug? (I'm an experienced sw engineer but more familiar with systems other than windows from the point of view of taking kernel dumps/debug etc but will give anything a go!)My next plan is to try overriding the driver to the 7.3 version (intended for older cards).
