Unable to access any shared folder on the C:/ Drive (OS Drive)
Hi. i have a strange problem with my installed Windows 7. for some reason i cannot access any folder I have shared on my C:/ drive from any computer on the network. I have folders shared on D: , E: and F: drives and they worked as soon as i set them to shared.. but any folder on C: (including public file sharing folders) are locked. ive set the permisisions to "everyone" and i can see no differece in security or sharing between the folders on different drivers so why am i unable to access C:/ Shares?ThankyouManny Calavera

What is the exact error? Do you get access denied or an dialog box stating the share could not be found?

hi. yea the actual folder appears on the network share but the error i get when trying to access it from an XP computer is:"xxxxx is not accessible. You may not have permission to use network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions." The request is not supported." all non C: folders work fine

What are your Windows 7 network location settings set to? Are you set to either home or work network? This is what I discovered. ---------------------------------------------- Computer 1: Windows XP SP3, Workgroup, user: test1, passwd: a Computer 2: Windows 7, build 7000, Workgroup, user: test1, passwd: a Shared c:\temp from computer 1.Shared c:\temp and c:\ (using an explicit share and not the administrative c$ share) from computer 2. Computer 1 could only access the shares on computer 2when the network location was either set to home network or work network. When the network location was set to public network, computer 1 could not access any shares on computer 2. However, computer 2 could easily access the shares on computer 1 regardless of the network location settings.----------------------------------------------Also, this KB article may be of some help: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947232. It deals with administrative shares when computers are members of a workgroup and not a domain.
