Unable to connect to network after OS re-install
After Re-installing windows XP home (no service packs), I am unable to reconnect my computer to my home network. When connected, the system sees that it is connected, but can not find the router on the network, or access the internet. The other Computers on my home network can all access the router and internet. The system in question connects to the router via standard network cable, and all cables are plugged in properly.1 person needs an answerI do too

Do you have static or dynamic IP addressing? What IP address does the router have? What IP address does the computer involved have? You should go ahead and install Service Pack 3 for Windows XP.-B- http://www.officeforlawyers.com Author: The Lawyer's Guide to Microsoft Outlook

Before and after the wipe, no network settings changed - the affected system has a dynamic IP address. As for installing SP3 - I had to install Vanilla XP - no service packs. I need to get at the internet to download service pack 1 or 2 before I can get service pack 3 installed.

If you go to a command prompt can you type this:IPCONFIG /RELEASE (press enter)thenIPCONFIG /RENEW (press enter)Does your machine get the same IP address or a different one? I assume it's the Linksys that's acting as the DHCP server on the network? -B- http://www.officeforlawyers.com Author: The Lawyer's Guide to Microsoft Outlook

Do you have the latest drivers for your network adapter in that machine? You may need to go to the vendor's website on one of the other machines, download the latest drivers to a flash drive and then load them from there. -B- http://www.officeforlawyers.com Author: The Lawyer's Guide to Microsoft Outlook
