Unable to get IPv6 working on Laptop running Windows 7
So I have a Dell Laptop (Inspiron E1705 if that matters) that I cannot get IPv6 working on. I have it enabled. I have used both the built in Ethernet adapter as well as a USB Wireless N Adapter. Both exhibit the same behavior. IPv4 works fine. The machine is on the network, can get to the internet and everything without issue. But I have a homegroup going and would really like to join this machine to it. When I try to do a /ipconfig renew6 I get the following error: "An error occurred while renewing interface Loopback Pseudo-Interface 1 : The system cannot find the file specified." I have tried Uninstalling / Reinstalling al NIC adapters (and have tried 2 different adapters). I tried resetting winsock and then rebooting. All nothing. I am running Windows 7, and it was an upgrade version from Windows Vista. Any help would be appreciated as this is kinda driving me crazy. Thanks

Hi, The reason why you can not make the ipv6 address renewed is that you have not had the Ipv6 DHCP server in the subnet. I would like to advise that you needn’t set Ipv6 address. You can directly join this computer into Homegroup because of IPv6 over IPv4 isatap. For details information, please refer to the following link. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc756770(WS.10).aspx The IPv6 function is enabled by default. But If you find it disabled, please refer the following link to enable it. http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=kb;en-us;929852&x=11&y=13Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question.
