Unable to open bit locker encrypted drive
Hi All, I have a Win 7 machine. D drive is bit locker encrypted. I have the password as well as recovery key. But it's not asking for anything. If I click 'Unlock Drive' also nothing is happening. No screen to enter password or recovery key is getting displayed. Earlier my machine was part of a domain, i removed it from domain. Not sure if that caused the issue. Can anyone please help?

try to boot in safe mode. It might ask you for recovery key.

What if you start a cmd.exe (with "Run as administrator") and then run the command "manage-bde -unlock D:" and specify the recovery key or password, can you then access the information on the D: drive?Blogging about Windows for IT pros at www.theexperienceblog.com

@Andreas Stenhall, I did try this. I used this command:C:\Windows\system32>manage-bde -unlock D: -recoverypassword <<Pwd>> But it's giving me below error: ERROR: The password failed to unlock volume D:. Can you please help me how to use recovery key. The example says manage-bde -unlock E: -RecoveryKey F:\84E151C1...7A62067A512.bek But I have tried with txt format, its again not taking the key. I m not sure how to save a file in .bek format.

@Andreas Stenhall Bingo!!! It worked...i was entering bit locker password, but instead one has to use recovery key (not password) with -recoverypassword keyword. So to sum up here are the steps i followed: 1. Go to C:\Windows\System32\. Open "cmd.exe" as administrator [Right click, Run as administrator] 2. Run command: "manage-bde –unlock E: -recoverypassword 111111-222222-333333-444444-555555-666666-777777-888888" And the result is: BitLocker Drive Encryption: Configuration Tool version 6.1.7600 Copyright (C) Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved. The password successfully unlocked volume D:. THANKS AGAIN
