Unable to print from Windows 7
Hi All,
I have a Dell Optiplex 780 PC, RAID 1 enabled, Windows 7 Professional,
joined to domain, running MS Office 2010.
Everything was working fine without any issues, till recently. However, there is a creepy issue, which i am encountering.
Here is the problem -
I login to the PC using a domain account with normal privileges, no issues all applications work fine. However, when i try to print from MS Office 2010 applications, when i click on
File->Print, the application freezes.
NOTE: I am trying to print to a local Deskjet printer that is connected to my PC using a USB Cable. Its the same even with network printers.
Its the same with all the documents. In this case, when we disconnect the network cable from the PC, when you click on
File->Print, the application does not freeze and we are able to print.
However, when we login to this PC using a local account thats created (Admin privilege/Normal Account), he is able to print, with the network being connected.
We need assistance in fixing this issue ASAP..
Please Assist...

First try with different domain accounts to see if you experience the issue. Try a new user profile for that domain account, careful windows 7 behaves differently so you have to log out and log in as a different admin and from there wipe out the profile
after you have made a backup copy. This can be done from the advanced system setting, old computer proprieties in win XP.
Second, it might be a DNS issue, where are you geting your DNS from, is it the Domain controller, or some other device?
Do you have a print server, is it properly recorded in the DNS zone? Are the network printers added trough the print server or directly by IP ports?
Try a domain account with admin rights over the local machine to see if it works fine. In addition when you log in with your local admin account, are the network printers added to that profile?
You might want to dis join and rejoin the computer to the domain. Please do not forget to select the best answer if it helps you! The Ultimate computer newbie guide since the discovery of spoon feeding!

Thanks for the reply..
However, I would like to reply to your questions and also add more points..
This issue of printing is not in one or 2 PCs.. its across 2 subnets.. I already tried with other domain accounts, same issue of printing still existing. Tried with domain account with Admin privilege as well, same issue.. unable to print. As we do not have a Print Server, the network printers are added directly by IP ports.
Hence, the printers are listed even when we are logged in with this account. I already flushed the DNS from the client end. We already rejoined the PC to the domain.
Hope this helps you in narrowing down the issue...

Hi -
Any resolution to this? I'm having the same problem - in a domain, across subnets, to both local and IP printers and many of our machines are also optiplex 780s. Are you using ImageDirect from Dell? Do you have Novell in your environment?
Trying to figure out what we have in common....
