Unable to run .bat file
I have a peer to peer with XP Pro as the host, XP Home as client. Have card connectivity. Have maaped drive but need to run a .bat file taht registers .ddls across both PCs on the network. When I click on the .bat file (file is on the Pro PC but I am accessing from Home PC) nothing happens. I can view all the shared files, have turned off firewall, checked workgroups, verified no ani virus. Just will not run. Computers are on store network but have been assured that network we are using does not run through Sonic firewall. What could be the casue of this?1 person needs an answerI do too

HiIt is not totally clear what you are doing. When you run a file on a computer through the Network (i.e., the file is on the remote computer) its execution is not on the remote computer but on the computer that you are working with.If the bat file components are not the the computer that runs it (but they are on the remote computer) it will not run.If you want to execute files on the remote computer, you have to connect first with Remote desktop. Thanks Jack,I do have access to the other remote computer through the network. The batch file resides on the Remote computer. However when I click on it nothing happens. I have done this many times before with 2 XP Pro machines. In this case it is Home and Pro.Not using Windows Remote desktop. I have actually created a physical network using a Cat 5 cable, a switch and mapped the 2 computers using the IP address and the shared folder of one comuter where the program I am accessing resides and the batch file resides. The file is a registercommon.bat file which is a script to register 4 dll's over the network. That allows 4 files to share data files on the network that the proprietary software uses.I hope this clarifies it. I have had no luck from my corporate it people and was hoping I was missing something obvious. Any suggestions are welcome.

HiAs I said, you cannot execute files on the remote computer trough the Network.Through “pure” Network (the one that you configured) the remote computer acts as though it is an additional Drive (that is why you can map it) on your computer, and thus use the files to run them on your computer and Not on the remote that is seen the remote as a drive/folders..When you configure Remote Desktop, it rides over the Network connection and act as though the remote computer is on your computer as an additional computer, not just as a drive, and thus executer the files on the remote computer. In any case, it might be that I do not fully understand what the bat file is doing and what are the files that your are trying to register (they might Not exist on both computers). The difference regarding XP Pro and XP Home network wise is.XP home does only simple file sharing.Win XP Pro is capable to do professional Sharing.Windows XP File Sharing - http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;304040 In Win XP pro you can Visually see the Permission/Security setting, and configure them to your liking.http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/security/learnmore/accesscontrol.mspx#securityTab Jack-MVP Windows Networking.
