Unable to update or reinstall Security Essential Tools after removing "Cleanup Antivirus"
I was infected with "Cleanup Antivirus" and was finally able to remove it with Remove Fake Virus. What I did noticed when I got the virus was that it removed my Windows Defender icon and eversince April 1 none of my automatic updates were being installed. I am unable to run Windows Defender nor am I able to reinstall Windows Defender or the Malicious Software Removal. I went to redownload the Security Essentials and that installation failed as well. I am not sure what to do. Can anyone suggest what I can do? I went looking on the internet and I think I was about to be infected with another virus called Antivirus Plus, not sure but I think I was able to stop the installation as soon as I saw the launch.exe on screen. Not a perfect world and I had to let my antivirus subscription expire. Is the problem a result of being infected with that Cleanup Virus or something less sinister?

Most likely your computer is still infected. See this thread for options - http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/msescan/thread/87058857-d181-4019-a723-efd9a49d9275 JimMicrosoft MVP Consumer Security - Forum Moderator - Live One Care - Live Mesh - Microsoft Security Essentials
