Under Vista Ultimate, network connection isn't active for 2 min after booting up
Does anyone know why it takes 2 minutes to start my internet network connection (2 blue monitor icons in lower tray) to turn from red to blue after starting Vista each time? The network is working fine, this is just a start up problem. Why does it take 2 minutes before its active. Thanks

Hi, If you are using dynamic IP address, please try to use static IP address to troubleshoot the problem. The problem may be the computer need time to get dynamic IP address from DNS server. Thanks.

Hi, You can refer to the following article: Change TCP/IP settings http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/Windows/en-US/help/e070bf7b-6d5e-4f49-b4f7-10aa8d8b11e21033.mspx Also, you can contact your colleague or neighbor to help you on changing TCP/IP settings. Thanks.

Hi, Thank you for your update. I understand that you have proved the IP address and DNS setting is not root cause. Your cooperation is highly appreciated. Given the situation, I suggest we check background programs and SuperFetch. Suggestion 1: Test issue in Clean Boot ============================= 1. Click Start, type "MSCONFIG" (without the quotations) in the Search Bar and Press "Enter" to start the System Configuration Utility. 2. Click the "Services" tab, check the "Hide All Microsoft Services" box and click "Disable All" (if it is not gray). 3. Click the "Startup" tab, click "Disable All" and click "OK". 4. Restart the computer and test the issue. Note: Clean Boot is a troubleshooting step. If some programs have been disabled, we can re-enable them later. If you see the System Configuration Utility, check the box of "Don't show this message" and then click "OK". Please monitor the system in the Clean Boot environment. If the problem does not occur, it indicates that the problem is related to one application or service we have disabled. You may use the MSCONFIG tool again to re-enable the disabled item one by one to find out the culprit. Suggestion 2: Disable SuperFetch. ============================= Superfetch caches data to RAM so that it can be immediately available to your application. Sometimes this can affect the performance of certain applications. 1. Click "Start", type: services.msc in the search box and press Enter. 2. Double click on Superfetch, choose Stop. Then, please modify the Startup type as Disabled. Click OK. 3. Please restart the computer twice to test the performance issue. Hope it helps.

Hi, First, THANKS so much for responding and offering suggestions, but I tries both suggestions (1, removing all startup pgms other tham MS, and 2, turned Superfetch off (and restarted twice), with no change in startup. Its still taking 2 minutes to get the network connection to IE active. Any other suggestions will be greatly appreciated.... Thanks again

Hi, Thank you for your update. Given the current stage, could you please confirm the following points? 1.Do you use a wireless adapter? If so, please try to test this issue with wire if possible. 2.Did you update your network adapter driver? 3.Does the issue still occur on Safe Mode? For your reference: Update network adapter driver. ========================================= 1.Click to open Device Manager. 2.If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type your password or click Allow. 3.Double-click the category containing your device driver, and then double-click the name of the device. 4.Click the Driver tab, and then click Update Driver. NOTE: You also can contact your computer manufacturer to ask for the latest network adapter driver. Test the issue in Safe Mode ================================= 1. Restart the computer. 2. Keep pressing the F8 key until the Windows Startup menu appears. 3. Choose Safe Mode with Networking, and press Enter. Please test this issue in Safe Mode. Hope it helps.

Hi, 1. Yes I use a wireless adaptor, tried getting the most current drivers, both are most current. Intel(R) PRO/1000 PL Network Connection Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network Connection v 11.5.0.32 2. Restarted in safe mode ----> same problem, only the network never connects automatically, and cannot find a network in safe mode. 3. I have not updated any network adaptor drivers recently. The only changes I've made to the computer (since the problem started) have been installed a newer version of Norton 2008 added a new wireless printer, HP 7250 changed ISP's from Sprint to Qwest Interestingly, once this morning I rebooted it, and the network connection became active immediately. This is the only time it has done this in the last few months. I don't know if this has anything to do with it, but just before the boot, new updates were configured on the computer. Subsequent reboots have left the problem,.......the network doesn't become active for 2 minutes. Also, when I do a normal startup, and try immediately to get into Device Manager, it won't respond until the network becomes active. End result = problem still there. THANKS again for all the help Ed - Denver CO
