Unexpected shutdown
Thar's right. In the middle of installing a program automatic updates restarted my computer. The task was listed in the task manager. There was mouse activity within the last ten minutes before it restarted. It would be nice if it would wait for no mouse activity and check to see what programs are running first.

I don't like that either. I would like to share with Anthony Mann what my weak eyes see on this page.

It was a slap in the face for me. I just wasn't ready for it.

You mean you didn't have your morning dose of caffeine yet? Coffee, coffee, everywhere, Nor any drop to drink.

It was a slap in the face for me. I just wasn't ready for it. (How come your post that I'm quoting is invisible now?) You mean you didn't have your morning dose of caffeine yet? Read again. Read this 4/20/2009 thread archive again: Official Windows 7 manual.mht Don't you think whoever "moderated" this thread should've pruned Ziegler's troll-post instead? I think it qualifies as "harassment" in the forum Code of Conduct. Correct me if I'm wrong. Coffee, coffee, everywhere, Nor any drop to drink.

Those GP settings, if they'd even have effect in this case, are unavailable for Home Premium, Ziegler. You didn't bother to ask. I've had an automatic-update-restart popup appear out of nowhere, offering only the opportunity to postpone for 10 minutes. But if that happens while I've stepped away, tough. The system is rebooted when I've returned. Then there is simply a message telling me to view what was updated. Lost work. Tough cookies. Rude. Regardless, your late reply now is hardly an apology for your initial post here, Ziegler. Review this. You knew ZeroTolerance is Defcon. Sometimes a simple apology changes everything. Sometimes.

Egads, My computer came with the home premium edition. I consider this to be a slap in the face for honest computer users everywhere. Who here has not bean writing an email to someone less important than themselves when windows does the ultimate - restarts your computer without even asking permission or warning. I am disgusted. French roast with room for milk.

I'm going to try it with Vista. See the very last key in the list. "A cross-reference is an tool which converts Group Policy into Registry entries" MSDN - It's automated. http://gps.cloudapp.net/

Egads, My computer came with the home premium edition. I consider this to be a slap in the face for honest computer users everywhere. Maybe the confusion about Home Premium not having gpedit begins here: What's New in Group Policy. Which editions include this feature? Group Policy is available in all editions of Windows Server 2008 R2 and Windows 7. Does it function differently in some editions? Without RSAT, only local Group Policy can be managed using Windows 7. I thought I looked in Help & Support for a solution to this uninvited reboot issue. I'm sure you looked there first too, didn't you, Mr Seven? In any case, I have now added the GP key to a couple of Vista and also Windows 7 systems. I'm not sure what to expect, given that the July 30, 2010 KB article appears to exclude Windows 7. I guess we'll just have to wait for the next push of critical updates to see what happens. Defcon, since you originally submitted this thread as a Discussion, I'll tell you my opinion. That registry tweak seemingly prevents Automatic-Update from even offering to reboot the system. That's not what I want. I don't think you said that either. I think we both just want it to stop being so incorrigible about it.

Just bitching "censoreD". The nerve of some operating systems. I must care to much about the general public. I don't want to see anyone lose unsaved work. I can't explain it. It's just how I am.
