Unidentified Network
We have had this computer for 4 months, then this afternoon when we got home we could not get on the internet. We have two computers, and our computer that has XP is working fine, but the one that is running windows vista is the one you can not get onto the internet with. We receive an message of Unidentified Network. We are not sure what to do we have talked to Qwest, because we thought it might be the internet not connecting with that computer, but they say its our computer. If we go into cmd, and ipconfig we get an off the wall ip address. we went into networking and manually put in the ip address, and still nothing. Does anyone have any suggestions. I do not have a router, I am using a qwest dsl modem. Any suggestions will be appreciated. Thank you

Hello langston42, If you can provide the ipconfig/all output we might be able further diagnose the issue. To do so, please perform the following steps: 1. On Windows Vista machine, click Start, click Programs, click Accessories, and then click Command Prompt. 2. At the Command Prompt window type: ipconfig/all 3. Click the iconin the menu bar on the left, click Edit, thenclickSelect All. 4. Click on the icon again, and choose Copy. 5. Then paste the ouput into your next reply. If you cannot connect to the Internet with your computer, save it to a text file and transfer it to another computer and paste the results. -- Eric Cross Microsoft MVP (Windows Desktop Experience) http://mvp.support.microsoft.com
