I've had my Toshiba Satellite L655D - 011 for less than 6 months. I've never really had problems with it that i couldn't fix until today. So I restarted my computer because it was doing something funny with my msn. I always leave my msn appear offline, but for some reason it kept randomly making me appear online. But after that, it wouldn't start up anymore. It kept sending me to this windows error recovery page. It tells me to either Repair my computer or to start windows normally. I tried both. WHen i click repair my computer, it loads the necessary files, but after that it, just sends me to a black screen with only my cursor there. If i choose to start it normally, it only goes up till the windows logo show before it sends me right back to windows recovery. So what i did then, is open the Advanced boot options by pressing F8 at start up. Running the computer in safemode just sends me back to the windows error recovery page. Boot logging, last known good configuration and directory services restore mode also send me back to the windows error recovery page. Then i went ahead and disabled automatic restart on system failure. It send me to this blue screen that said Unmountable Boot Volume. I didn't' really know what to do with that. As my last resort, i went and got my recovery disks. I pressed F12 at startup and then set it up so that the computer opens the disk drives. It opens my disks, and loads the files, but it does the same things as the "repair your computer" option. It just sends me to the black screen. I'm out of ideas;; I really don't know what to do anymore. Help pleasee. and yeah, my laptop runs on Windows 7

Hi, Based on the situation you described, please check if you can do a clean installation. Since this laptop is less than 6 months, I think it’s still under warranty, contact the Toshiba support could be the good choice. I know this thread is old, but I had the exact same thing happen, black screen/mouse cursor in Fix Startup, BSOD in Safe Mode/Normal, and black screen/mouse cursor from booting from a Windows 7 disc. What you need, oddly enough, is a Windows Vista recovery disc. It starts up with absolutely no issues, unlike the Windows 7 disc, and allows you to get to a point where you can Shift + F10 to get into a command prompt. At that point, I did a chkdsk /r, followed by a bootrec /fixboot. I found bootrec in the Windows\en-US directory, but doing a dir bootrec* /s on your drive will determine where it is exactly on your particular machine. After all this, my computer booted absolutely fine, everything intact. I did another chkdsk for good measure to make sure everything was good, and the drive comes out clean. So far so good, I've been running without issue. The key all along was having a Vista Recovery disc. Hopefully this helps somebody, and hopefully your problem is already resolved. Cheers

Ok i have encountared the exact same problem (unmountable boot volume, black screen + mouse cursor, etc).... but i have found a solution for those people who do not want to format, remove or replace the harddrive 1-First put the windows installation disc inside your computer, and set the priorty to boot from disc 2-When the computer says press any key to boot from disc (PRESS ONLY F8) and keep on pressing it until you see the advanced options (NOTICE that THESE options are loaded from the disc, because i have tried the advanced options without the installation CD, but unfourtunatley nothing worked) 3- Choose safe mode (TRUST ME THIS WILL WORK) but the computer will not go to windows... rather you will see it loading the cd windows installation 4- When Safe mode loads press next then press repair your computer... (AT this state your computer might run very slowly but be patient) 5- Now wait until your computer loads... and press next again... and this time you will see the options like ( Startup repair, or system recovery, or..... ) 6- Choose command prompt and type bootrec/fixmbr 7- than type chkdsk c: /r (this option will eventually fix your computer, but it will take ALOT of time depending of how much your hardrive is corrupted, and it might stop at some point. If you feel that it is stuck at a specific sector, dont worry clos command prompt and repeat steps 1-7) and it will definetaly work
