Upgrading to WIN 8.1 from WIN 8 hangs at 72%

I am trying to upgrade from WIN 8 to Win 8.1. Every time a try it hangs at "Getting devices ready at 72%".

I then have to turn the computer off and restart and it "Restoring your previous version of Windows."

I have a HP 32 bit laptop.

Any suggestions?

You can try to disconnect the network connection and then reconnect it.

You may also want to check for updates to the drivers for your system, it is possible that one of the currently installed drivers is compatible with Windows 8, but not with Windows 8.1 and is hanging upon upgrade. You can run the Windows 8.1 Upgrade Assistant from here as an automated tool to check compatibility of your devices.

It is best practice to update your drivers to the latest revision before performing an upgrade. As such, even if the Upgrade Assistant does not find any incompatibilities, updating the drivers is still recommended.
