User in WIn 7 cannot start or stop a service
Hello, I have a user on the network who is placed into the Power Users security group because I do not want them to have full access to their PC. Occaisonally, the print spooler service will crash unexpectedly. I direct them to go into the services and restart the print spooler service. When they go into the Services, Win 7 Pro asks for an administrator password. If they type their password in, the START & STOP for the print spooler is grayed out. If I type in the administrator credentials, I can then stop and start the print spooler service. How can I give this user permissions to start and stop services without putting them in the local admin group?

The Power Users group is obsolete starting with Vista and no longer used. You can use the task scheduler to start/stop services."A programmer is just a tool which converts caffeine into code" CLIP- Stellvertreter http://www.winvistaside.de/

Andre, I do have my users set up as Power Users and is still included in WIN 7. If Power Users is obsolete, which other group do you recommend for users in which they dont need full access to the PC, but enough that they wont be completely locked down?

Andre, I do have my users set up as Power Users and is still included in WIN 7. But the ACL entries are removed from the HDD/registry: Permissions and rights have been removed from the Power Users group in Windows Vista http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2028493 If Power Users is obsolete, which other group do you recommend for users in which they dont need full access to the PC, but enough that they wont be completely locked down? there is none. Setup a task with the task scheduler with runs under an user account with admin permissions. Such a task can be started with schtasks.exe by users, too."A programmer is just a tool which converts caffeine into code" CLIP- Stellvertreter http://www.winvistaside.de/
